JOB TITLE: Full-Time Associate Pastor for Students and Activities
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:
The minister of students and activities is responsible to the pastor for planning, conducting, and evaluating student ministries, for leading in a church-wide plan of recreation and activities, and for coordinating the family life center.
REGULAR DUTIES:
- Lead in planning, coordinating and evaluating a student ministry that integrates with the total ministry of the church.
- Work with recreation director and appropriate program leaders in planning church wide recreational programs and activities for all ages.
- Coordinate the family-life center activities.
- Work with nominating committee, minister of education and other program directors to enlist and train adult leadership. Strive to involve parents and other adult lay leadership in all aspects of student programming.
- Cultivate relationships and plan ministries which will reach students with a wide variety of interests.
- Implement a ministry and an evangelistic outreach to college students. Develop and implement a strategy to reach students at MAC.
- Plan and promote a visitation effort among youth and students including outreach, in-reach and students ministering to others.
- Assist minister of education and other program leaders in developing budgets for these areas.
- Develop relationships with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and other school staff. Periodically attend school sponsored student
- Lead in planning periodic events to assist and encourage parents of youth.
- Keep informed on methods, materials, principles, local resources and people that can assist with student ministry.
- Plan and lead a midweek Bible study and prayer service for students.
- Assist with pastoral ministries such as hospital visitation and develop a personal plan for weekly pastoral and prospect visitation.
- Serve as ex-officio member of appropriate church committees and meet with committees as assigned.
- Assist, as needed, other members of the staff.
- Cooperate with associational and state leaders in promoting activities of mutual interest.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the pastor.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- Serve as a member of the church council.
- Serve on the church staff with status equal to that of the other ministers, all of whom work at the direction of the pastor.
- The weekly schedule of the minister of students and activities must be flexible. Because weekend and evening hours are often a necessity, office hours will be adjusted accordingly. This weekly schedule should be coordinated with the pastor.
