Have you come to the place in your life that you know for certain you have eternal life and that you will go to heaven when you die? You can have this assurance through faith in Jesus Christ.

God’s Purpose

God loves us and has a purpose for our lives. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

God will give us eternal life and we can know that we will one day go to heaven Romans 6:23; John 14:3).

Our Need

Our sinful nature keeps us from fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives and our sins separate us from God.

  • We are sinners by nature and by choice. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 6:23).
  • We cannot earn salvation. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Eph. 2:8-9).
  • Our sin results in death and hell. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).

God’s Provision

Because God is holy and just, he must punish sin. But, God loves us and wants to forgive our sins and give us eternal life. Jesus died on the cross for us so when we believe in him, he forgives our sins and gives us eternal life. We become the children of God.

  • Jesus died for us on the cross (1 Peter 3:18).
  • Jesus rose from the dead and is alive today (Romans 4:25; 6:9-10).
  • Jesus provides the way of salvation for us. “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me’” (John 14:6).

Our Response

We must receive Jesus in order to be saved. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John1:12).

To receive Jesus we must:

  • Repent of our sin. Repent means more than being sorry. It means to turn away from our sin and turn to God.
  • Confess our sins. This means we tell God, in prayer, what we have done, and we ask for his forgiveness for our sins.
  • Place our faith in Jesus. This means we believe that Jesus died for us and that he will forgive our sins and save us. Faith is trusting in Jesus.
  • Begin to live our lives for him. As best we know how, we give control of our lives to Jesus Christ.

Receive Jesus

If you want to trust Jesus as your Savior, may we suggest the following prayer, or a similar prayer of your own, to invite Christ into your life.

“Dear Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God and that you died to forgive my sins. I know I have sinned. I ask you to forgive me. I turn away from my sin and I receive you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. I want to live for you all the rest of my life. Amen.”

Follow Through

When you pray the prayer of faith, God hears you and he saves you. We encourage you to tell people about your new commitment. It is important that you follow-through on your commitment with believer’s baptism and by participation in a local church. The people of the church will help strengthen you in your faith. Through the church, you will also find opportunities to serve God.

Having made this commitment, if you will contact First Baptist Church, we will be pleased to provide you more helpful information related to your new life in Christ!
